Healing as of Old (Part 2)

Living in Divine Health

Theme Scripture: Exodus 15:26; Matthew 9:20–22

“For I am the LORD that healeth thee.”Exodus 15:26

Introduction

God is not merely a God who heals—He is the Lord our Healer (Jehovah Rapha).

Healing is not something believers should struggle to obtain; it is part of God’s covenant with His people. God’s desire is not only to heal us occasionally but to establish us in divine health.

The prayer of God for His children is that we prosper spiritually, physically, emotionally, financially, and relationally.

Key Scriptures

  • Exodus 15:26
  • Matthew 9:20–22
  • 3 John 2
  • Hebrews 11:6
  • Psalm 103:3
  • James 5:14–15

What is Divine Health?

Healing is recovering from sickness.

Divine health is living above sickness.

God’s highest desire is not simply to remove disease but to preserve His children in health and wholeness.

The Israelites travelled through the wilderness for forty years without hospitals, doctors, scans, or modern medicine, yet they remained healthy because they walked under God’s covenant.

Why Did the Men of Old Walk in Divine Health?

1. They Believed God Completely

The children of Israel had no alternatives.

Their confidence rested entirely in God.

Likewise, the woman with the issue of blood believed that one touch of Jesus’ garment was enough to make her whole.

Key Lesson

Faith is the foundation of divine healing.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Faith is never passive—it always acts.

2. They Obeyed Divine Instructions

Healing often came through simple but specific instructions.

Examples include:

  • Naaman washing seven times in the River Jordan.
  • Following God’s directions exactly, even when they seemed unreasonable.

Key Lesson

Obedience may not always make sense, but it always brings results.

God’s instructions are never suggestions.

Delayed or partial obedience delays the manifestation of God’s promises.

3. They Lived in Covenant with God

Divine health was connected to covenant living.

A covenant relationship involves:

  • Holiness
  • Worship
  • Repentance
  • Intimacy with God
  • Walking in His ways

David understood this when he declared:

“Who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases.”

Key Lesson

Intimacy with God produces confidence in His promises.

4. They Practised Godly Lifestyle and Habits

Divine health is both supernatural and practical.

The people of old understood:

  • The importance of rest (Sabbath)
  • Healthy eating
  • Balance
  • Avoiding unnecessary stress

Key Lesson

Faith does not eliminate wisdom.

Healthy habits honour the God who gave us our bodies.

5. They Guarded Their Hearts

Many emotional and spiritual problems begin in the heart.

Scripture reminds us:

“Guard your heart with all diligence.”

What we hear…

What we watch…

Who we spend time with…

What we confess…

all shape our spiritual and emotional health.

Key Lesson

A healthy heart produces a healthy life.

Protect your heart from fear, bitterness, negativity, and destructive influences.

6. They Honoured God’s Presence

Where God’s presence dwells, healing follows.

Examples:

  • The Ark of the Covenant brought blessing wherever it stayed.
  • Jesus healed entire villages because His presence was there.

Key Lesson

Create an atmosphere where God’s presence is welcomed through worship, prayer, and holiness.

7. They Spoke Life Instead of Death

Faith speaks differently.

Examples include:

  • The Shunammite woman declaring, “It is well.”
  • Believers speaking life instead of defeat.

Instead of saying:

  • “I’m finished.”
  • “This sickness will kill me.”

Speak God’s promises:

  • “I am healed.”
  • “It is well.”
  • “Long life is my portion.”

Key Lesson

Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Speak what God says—not what circumstances suggest.

8. They Aligned Their Words with God’s Promises

God’s Word should shape our confession.

Declare:

  • I will live and not die.
  • I am above and not beneath.
  • I cannot fail.
  • I arise and shine.
  • The glory of God is upon me.

Key Lesson

Your confession should consistently agree with Scripture.

9. They Valued Spiritual Authority

James 5 instructs believers to call for the elders of the church in times of sickness.

This reflects:

  • Honour
  • Submission
  • Faith
  • Confidence in God’s order

Key Lesson

God often works through the spiritual structures He has established.

10. They Worshipped Even in Difficult Times

Job remained a worshipper despite immense suffering.

Worship invites God’s presence.

God’s presence changes atmospheres.

Key Lesson

Never stop worshipping because of your circumstances.

Often, your breakthrough begins where your worship continues.

Daily Confession for Divine Health

Declare daily:

  • My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
  • Every sickness dries up from its root.
  • Every organ in my body functions perfectly.
  • My strength is renewed daily.
  • My mind is sound.
  • My heart is free from bitterness.
  • I choose peace.
  • I refuse fear, anxiety, and stress.
  • I obey divine instructions.
  • I walk in covenant blessings.
  • I honour God’s presence.
  • I speak life every day.
  • Divine health is my portion.
  • I receive healing as of old.

Key Takeaways

  • God is Jehovah Rapha—the Lord our Healer.
  • Healing is God’s provision; divine health is His desire.
  • Faith activates healing.
  • Obedience unlocks God’s promises.
  • Covenant relationship sustains divine health.
  • Healthy spiritual and physical habits matter.
  • Guard your heart diligently.
  • Honour God’s presence.
  • Speak life continually.
  • Align your confession with Scripture.
  • Worship through every season.

Memorable Quotes

“God is not only interested in healing you; He wants you to live in divine health.”

“Healing is a gift, but divine health is a lifestyle.”

“Faith is never passive—it always acts.”

“Obedience may not always be logical, but it is always profitable.”

“Your words either strengthen your faith or reinforce your fear.”

“Where God’s presence dwells, sickness cannot dominate.”

“Speak God’s promises until they become your reality.”

Conclusion

God’s desire for every believer is not simply to recover from sickness but to live a life marked by divine health, strength, and wholeness. The men of old experienced this because they trusted God completely, obeyed His instructions, walked faithfully in covenant with Him, guarded their hearts, honoured His presence, and continually spoke His Word over their lives. These same principles remain available to every believer today. As we walk in faith, obedience, worship, and the truth of God’s Word, we position ourselves to experience the fullness of His promise: “I am the LORD who heals you.”
