Sermon Title: Elohim – The Mighty One

Theme: Understanding the Power, Nature, and Expectation of Elohim
Text: Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 40:12–31, Joshua 10:6–15

Opening Prayer

Father, we thank You for Your Word.
As we receive today, let our hearts be open and attentive.
Let Your Word transform us and do us good.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Introduction

This month, we are studying the names of God.

  • Last month: AdonaiMy Lord
  • This month: ElohimMy God

Elohim means:

  • The Creator
  • The Mighty One
  • The All-powerful God

📖 Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning, Elohim created the heavens and the earth.”

Elohim is the first name of God revealed in Scripture.

1. Elohim – The Creator and Giver of Dominion

📖 Genesis 1:26–28

God created man in His image and likeness and gave man:

  • Dominion
  • Authority
  • Responsibility

Key Truth:

You were not created weak—you were created to rule.

  • “Be fruitful”
  • “Multiply”
  • “Subdue”
  • “Have dominion”

Implication:

Anything challenging you is under your authority.

📖 2 Timothy 1:7

“God has not given us the spirit of fear…”

Application:

  • Speak to your situation
  • Exercise dominion
  • Refuse fear

2. The Mightiness of Elohim

(a) Elohim Roars and Defends

📖 Joel 3:16

“The Lord will roar from Zion…”

When a lion roars, it declares:
👉 “This is my territory.”

Meaning:

  • God defends His own
  • God announces His authority
  • God fights for His people

(b) Elohim Thunders with Power

📖 Psalm 18:13–14

  • He thunders from heaven
  • He scatters enemies
  • He releases power beyond human understanding

Insight:

If God is for you, why fear?

(c) Elohim is Beyond Comprehension

📖 Isaiah 40:12

“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand?”

  • Nations = a drop in a bucket
  • Earth = dust on a scale
  • Mountains = weighed by Him

Reflection:

Your problem is too small for Elohim.

3. Elohim Does Not Need Help

📖 Isaiah 40:13–15

  • He needs no counsel
  • He needs no advice
  • He is self-sufficient

Truth:

God is:

  • Unquestionable
  • Unstoppable
  • All-sufficient

4. Elohim Gives Strength to the Weak

📖 Isaiah 40:28–31

Even:

  • Youth grow tired
  • Strong men fail

But:

“Those who trust in the Lord shall renew their strength.”

Promise:

  • You will soar like eagles
  • You will run and not be weary
  • You will walk and not faint

5. Trust in Elohim – Not Yourself

📖 Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”

Instruction:

  • Do not trust:
    • Your strength
    • Your intellect
    • The economy
    • The news

👉 Trust Elohim – the Mighty One

6. Elohim Protects His Own

📖 Job 1:9–10

Satan said:

“You have put a hedge around him…”

Three Layers of Protection:

  • Around him
  • Around his household
  • Around everything he has

Declaration:

God is protecting:

  • Your life
  • Your family
  • Your business
  • Your future

7. Elohim Fights for His People

📖 Joshua 10:6–15

Key Lessons:

(a) Victory is Declared Before the Battle

📖 Joshua 10:8

“Do not be afraid… I have given them into your hands.”

👉 You are already settled.

(b) Responsibility Still Matters

📖 Joshua marched all night

Even with God’s promise:

  • You must act
  • You must work
  • You must move

(c) God Amplifies Your Effort

📖 Joshua 10:11

  • Israel fought
  • God sent hailstones

👉 God will multiply your effort

(d) Speak with Authority

📖 Joshua 10:12

“Sun, stand still…”

And it happened.

Insight:

  • Joshua spoke boldly
  • Heaven responded

📖 Proverbs 18:21

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue.”

Application:

👉 Stop being silent—speak!

(e) Return to Your Spiritual Base (Gilgal)

After victory, they returned to Gilgal.

Meaning:

  • Return to God
  • Return in thanksgiving
  • Stay grounded spiritually

8. What Does Elohim Expect from Us?

(1) Thanksgiving

📖 Luke 17:17

“Were there not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?”

👉 Always return to say thank you

(2) Love for God

📖 1 John 3:1

“What manner of love the Father has lavished on us…”

📖 Romans 8:28

👉 God works for those who love Him

(3) Service

📖 Romans 12:1

Present your body as a living sacrifice

  • Serve in church
  • Serve God actively

(4) Evangelism

📖 Matthew 28:19

“Go and make disciples…”

(5) Worship

📖 John 4:23

“The Father seeks true worshippers…”

9. Final Thought: God’s Return on Investment

God has:

  • Saved you
  • Protected you
  • Blessed you

Question:

👉 What is God getting from your life?

Conclusion

Elohim is:

  • The Creator
  • The Mighty One
  • Your Defender
  • Your Father

But all of this begins with a relationship through Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus,

  • You will not fear
  • You will walk in dominion
  • Elohim will fight for you
